Otis Focus I: le Staff Part 1

31/03/2013 15:36

Hi, this is Festus, also known as Otis90, I've decided to name my blogs "Otis Focus". It just sounded cool like Hocus Pocus.

See what I did there?

Maybe not. Any ways, I've looked across the OFM GD forum and come across the topic that managers have discussed... Staff.

How to find this on OFM?: Log on>Chose your account>Club>Staff

The Assisstant

Scumbag Assistant... Possible new meme?

Personally, he's just what I call a "sideman". Doesn't actually do anything productive, other than back in the day when he used to pop up at the bottom of your screen saying a help message, which is now just this:

To people that aren't active, I guess the assistants are the ones taking those two points off us when we clearly have got the better tactics, team and fitness and even morale. I'd like to see the assistants actually doing something, maybe offering what tactics I should use depending on my goal, These days every answer to a "What Tactics should I use to win?"... 4231... SOS. (I'm not going to lie, I use that). Maybe even give me an update on my best performing players, and a predicted line-up? I think that will help new managers to settle down quicker.

Position Coaches

These guys are always the first people you should be hiring, always. Other than buying players, your team is only going to get better through training, ok it's never a guarantee that everyone will train successfully, but it's free (OFM money free, it's also literally free, but you know what I mean). Whether you're limited, Normal season ticket holder or Premium, These 4 staff are a priority. If you are a limited member, you would be better off taking a high goal team because you already have a good stadium (so players are likely to train better = improved squad). This probably explains why so many managers with Season Tickets do well with low goals, they have a much better team at the end than the pile of average that they started off with... other than the fact that they have good tactics. So if you're a limited member and you're winning leagues with low goals, you my friend, is an unsung hero.

Spy

I don't use him on my main still hire him just because I've got money to burn. But for battles he's definitely important. The Spy almost in a way determines your mood going into a match. When I spy on my next opponent and he hasn't camped, I'm like "OK, I can do this". When I can't spy because he's locked his tactics, that's when a bit of doubt creeps in. When you're a goal 1, expect to be hammered by camps, a lot of managers want to camp you, because they don't feel that they've got a chance without it. Let's say you're playing in England and and you're Manchester United and you're away to Southampton (Goal 14), I'd still fancy a United win. Why? Because Manchester United will have a much better team, as long as there is an active manager and his tactics are proven to work and win games, I don't see why not. Other than spying on them to check if they've camped. A good way is to look at the formation they are playing. Try to counter it. They're playing 4231 SOS? Try 442B SOS, or 451. They're playing 631 Play wide? Play anything that makes sense, because 631 PW sure doesn't.

What I do find annoying about using a spy is when I want to re spy on someone to see if they've changed since I've last checked, I have to spy on another team, wait for 5 mins, then spy on the original one, then wait another 5 mins. And even then nothing may have changed. :|

Is a spy a priority?

Heavily depends on how many active managers there is in your league, there's no point having a spy when there's no one changing their line up or tactics.

Part II will be up sooner rather than later!
